In this blog we plan to provide bioinformatics insight and coding tips. We’ll highlight projects that CQLS analysts have contributed to, to help illustrate to the OSU community how we can assist you.

Purpose of the Software List

The CQLS maintains thousands of software packages, sequence databases, and conda environments. The Software List is an attempt to catalog all software compiled for x86 (Intel/AMD) and OpenPOWER (IBM) CPU technologies. Current and past software versions are also listed as researchers may have need for a specific software version for reproducible research.

Despite our best efforts, keeping all software up-to-date is a technical challenge. Please help us by submitting Software Requests when you need new software or notice software is out-of-date.

Purpose of the Updates page

We generated the software updates site to help increase transparency about software and database updates, as well as help facilitate communication between the CQLS and researchers when updates occur. As new software is installed or updated, we will publish new pages with the location, version, and help messages about those pieces of software. Further, any tips or other information (e.g. conda env, databases, environment variables) needed to effectively run the software will also be included.

Additionally, links to the software source/help pages will be provided, along with the link to the publication/orginal research that can be cited during manuscript writing.

The end goal is to help provide insight on when new software is installed as well as allow organic discovery of potential software pipelines that can be used in research ongoing at OSU on the CQLS infrastructure.

About the CQLS

The Center for Genome Research and Biocomputing facilitates genome-enabled and data-driven research in the life and environmental sciences at OSU and across the state. The Center offers leadership, training and services to faculty, staff and students through expert staff, core laboratories, computational facilities, seminars and technology workshops, and conferences. It also provides a focal point for researchers to establish contacts, initiate collaborations, and apply new technologies in their own laboratories.

Research in the CQLS and faculty affiliate laboratories seeks to improve health, better utilize natural and agricultural resources, understand our global environment, and develop new bio-based products and energy sources. Over 120 OSU faculty, holding primary appointments in academic departments of the Colleges of Agricultural Sciences; Engineering; Forestry; Pharmacy; Science; Veterinary Medicine; Public Health and Human Sciences; or Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, are affiliate members of the Center.
